This client – as is often the case with startups – was simply “trying to boil the ocean”. In other words they were trying to develop every aspect of their business all at once.

They had so many ideas for the business, the marketing, the product, that they were going round in circles. There was no clear point of minimum viable product (MVP) and too much procrastination about actually facing to the market.

With this client we worked through the business strategy model, understanding their products, their client and their intention.

With these determined, we identified the MVP and strategy as to where the product can be sold (rather than waiting for the main website to be built) to generate immediate return on funds and free up cashflow. We also reviewed the product range – which originally was very broad – and streamlined to a few key products.

The client then had opportunity to build and develop their brand, product range and product journey. By having this softer product release, client then had the benefit of income during this early stage to support with the overheads of the business going forward.

The business is now an online retailer with multichannel outputs and a range of customer journeys. They have high return products being sold on targeted outlets online and the website is close to completion. They have a clear marketing strategy including proactive email campaign which is delivering strong return on cost.
